This is an excellent article in the Washington Post which describes the long delays in getting Social Security disability and the despair suffered by people who are disabled and have nowhere else to turn while they wait two years or more for a disability determination.

In our practice representing people injured on the job, we frequently see or recommend applications for Social Security Disability. You can receive both Social Security disability and workers’ compensation at the same time but there is a coordination/offset between the two benefits (you won’t receive the full benefit from both sources simultaneously).  If you are unable to work and considering an application for Social Security disability benefits, it’s a good idea to apply sooner rather than later because it can be a long, drawn out process unless your initial application is approved.

After handling Social Security Disability cases for more than 30 years, we now limit our practice to workers’ compensation claims but still answer a lot of Social Security questions from our clients. If you have questions about Social Security Disability we are happy to answer them for you and can also refer you to qualified and experienced attorneys who handle Social Security claims here in northern Minnesota.
